Hyderabad, June 08: Setting out on their mass contact programme in support of the elected representatives who had resigned their posts for a separate Telangana, the Osmania University Students Joint Action Committee (OUJAC) today warned that any others looking to enter the fray in the 12 Assembly constituencies in the region would “be stoned to death’’ for betraying the cause of Telangana.
The OUJAC students began their week-long Vidyarthi Praja Chaitanya Yatra from the Arts College here today. It was flagged off by Political JAC Convener Prof M Kodandaram and representatives of employees unions and civil society JACs.
Eleven teams of OUJAC leaders would be touring 11 of the 12 Assembly segments. “It is our responsibility to ensure that those who have resigned are re-elected without any opposition,’’ the OUJAC leaders said. “If parties like the Congress and TDP decide to contest, their candidates would be stoned to death,’’ the JAC leaders warned.
Telangana supporters from Manikeshwara Basthi, including women in traditional attire carrying bonalu, arrived in good numbers at the Arts College to extend their support to the student’s yatra. Another team comprising Kakatiya University students has also started its tour and it would concentrate on the Hanumkonda constituency in Warangal district. Every team, which has been assigned a particular Assembly constituency, will split into groups and reach out to the people in the villages.
The yatras would culminate in rallies and public meetings in the respective constituencies on June 16.
