Students to say “Jai Hind” instead of “Present sir” in MP schools

Bhopal: Students of all schools in Madhya Pradesh from November have to say “Jai Hind” instead of “Present sir”. This decision was taken by the Government of Madhya Pradesh.

According to the news published in Hindustan Times, after making hoisting of the national flag in schools compulsory, Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s government decided to make Jai Hind mandatory from November. However, in Satna District of Madhya Pradesh, this practice will be implemented from 1st October.

Talking about this decision, Vijay Shah, School Education Minister said that saying “Jai Hind” instill a sense of patriotism. “Jai Hind is acceptable to students belonging to all religions”, he added.

Reacting to the government’s decision, some educationists and Congress leaders said that government should focus on the quality of education and results instead of making “Jai Hind” compulsory.

Kunal Chaudhary, President of Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress said that the main task of school education department is to provide quality education. He claimed that government failed in this task. However, he added that he is not against of saying “Jai Hind”.

Ashutosh Pandey, MP Teachers’ Association General Secretary claimed that government is forcefully instilling a feeling of patriotism and said that such decision will not be enough to make students patriotic.

According to a report of Child Rights and You, 94% schools in Madhya Pradesh lacks the infrastructure to comply with Right to Education Act, 2009.

The state is facing the problem of the poor state of education. In recently held Class 10 and Class 12 board exams, many students passed the exam without even taking it.
