Students on rampage again: One Rtc bus set afire

Hyderabad, November 16: Once again the Osmania University Campus has turned into a Tension Zone on Free Zone issue as the angry students on Monday set an APSRTC bus on fire and broke glass panes of two other buses protesting against the adamant attitude of the police over conduct of the written examination for the recruitment of police sub-inspectors.

Demanding that the State government release the students arrested by the police at the DGP office for laying a seige to the DGP office demanding postponement of SI recruitment examination till the Free Zone issue was settled, the OU students staged Rasta Roko and took out a rally towards Tarnaka. Meanwhile, the police obstructed the rally. With this, the enraged students resorted to stone-pelting at RTC buses and destroyed glass panes of two buses.

As the situation was getting worse, the police resorted to lathicharge and arrested some of the students. On the other hand, some of the students set fire to a bus.

After the incident, police deployed additional forces on the campus and closed the Tarnaka and Seethafalmandi Flyovers.

The Home Minister, Ms Sabitha Indra Reddy, held a meeting with the DGP, Mr Aravinda Rao, and reviewed the University situation.

Speaking after the meeting, Mr Aravinda Rao said that the University incident was very small and the situation was under control. Later, the Home Minister went to meet the Chief Minister, Mr K Rosaiah, to discuss the University issue.

The university students have given a bandh call for Tuesday. The student leaders said that the educational institutions in the Telangana region will remain closed. Meanwhile, five OU students and SI aspirants who were on fast-unto-death for the last four days demanding that the government cancel the SI examination till 14(F) clause was deleted, was continuing.
