Students, parents protest against school evacuation orders

Hundreds of students and their parents led by Azampura Corporator Amjedullah Khan on Tuesday took out a rally from Imblibun Bus Depot to Chaderghat Circle in protest against the Hyderabad District Collector’s orders to vacate the school buildings for the Metro Rail Project.

The Hyderabad Collector vide Lr No A/700/2012 (Charminar Mandal) has issued notice on November 12 to four school buildings situated in Chaderghat area asking them to evacuate the premises and hand over the school building properties within seven days to the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project. The schools who received notices are Government City Model High School (English Medium), Government High School Azampura (Urdu Medium) and Government Girls High School,Chaderghat (Old) Telugu Medium.

Amjedullah Khan said that asking the schools to vacate the premises in the middle of academic year was wrong as it would affect nearly 700 students. He said that on one side the State Government was claiming that Andhra Pradesh was leading from the front in the implementation of Right to Education and on the other side they are handing over the properties of School Buildings to the commercial establishments.

The MBT corporator criticized the entire survey done for Metro Rail Project without the involvement of local public representatives where number of residential and commercial properties is being affected. He demanded that the evacuation orders be withdrawn immediately. (INN)
