‘Students, medics abducted in Bahrain’

Manama, April 27: Bahraini forces have reportedly abducted two female students and four female medics in different cities in line with the country’s harsh Saudi-backed crackdown.

The students were kidnapped in Bilad al-Qadim city and the medics in Isa town on Tuesday, witnesses said.

Earlier on Tuesday, a Bahraini opposition activist said the regime is seeking the death penalty against a group of anti-government protesters at a martial court.

Seven protesters are accused of killing two security forces during the regime’s crackdown on the popular uprising, former lawmaker Matar Matar said.

People in Bahrain have poured to the streets since February 14 to protest against the Al Khalifa dynasty.

In March, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait deployed their troops in the country to reinforce the brutal armed clampdown against the mass protests.

Security forces have arrested hundreds of people. Scores of protesters have also been killed and many others gone missing during the harsh Saudi-backed crackdown in the Persian Gulf state.
