Students march in protest demanding justice for Rohith Vemula

Hundreds of students continued their agitation here on Monday and called for a ‘Chalo HCU (Hyderabad Central University)’ protest march against the controversial death of Rohith Vemula, a second-year research scholar.

“We want to convey the message through this rally that the police should allow the students coming from all over India to enter the campus and attend the event here,” one of the protesting students told ANI.

The 28-year-old Dalit scholar was found hanging at a friend’s hostel room on January 17.

Rohith and other scholars were suspended from the hostel last September following allegations that they attacked an ABVP leader after the screening of a controversial documentary.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also expressed grief over the incident and said that it pained him a lot to know that a youth of the country was forced to commit suicide.
