Students’ groups protest against MBBS counselling

Hyderabad July 20: Tension prevailed at the JNTU campus on Friday when the activists of Students Federation of India (SFI) and Progressive Democratic Student’s Union (PDSU) tried to disrupt the first day of counseling for filling up the MBBS and BDS seats. The activists were demanding that the process of filling up the seats be held through online method only.

The activists alleged that private colleges have simply ignored the recommendations of Governor ESL Narasimhan and Andhra Pradesh High Court and sold the management quota seats for up to Rs 65 lakh to Rs 1 crore. They also alleged that injustice was done to the Telangana region in the allotment of seats and demanded that the government provide adequate infrastructure facilities and faculty in the colleges of the region.

Sensing that the situation might go out of control, the city police intervened and arrested the activists. They were later shifted to a nearby police station. (INN)
