Students go on rampage in government college

Hyderabad, March 06: Several intermediate students of government junior college, Rajendra Nagar, ransacked the college and damaged the furniture after college authorities denied issuing hall tickets to students who fell short of attendance for the upcoming Board of Intermediate examinations.

This morning, more than 50 students led by activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) entered into the college to ‘gherao’ the college authorities for not issuing hall tickets to some students. But the mob went on a rampage and started smashing the glass panes and other furniture in the class rooms. Upon coming to know about the incident, Rajendra Nagar police swung into action and used mild force to control the situation.

The incident created panic in the college premises.

“Actually the college authorities had asked the students who fell short of attendance to pay a fine of Rs 400.

But some students who were unhappy with the decision, ransacked the college,” Rajendra Nagar police said.

Police said that four students were taken into custody and cases were registered against them under section 448 (punishment for house trespassing) and section 427 (mischief causing damage) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
