Students being treated like poultry chicken, action needed: Paladugu

Hyderabad, May 29: Giving voice to the concern of thousands of parents whose wards study in private educational institutions, senior Congress leader and MLC Paladugu Venkat Rao on Saturday said that most of these institutions availed of the benefits offered by the Education Department while treating the students like chicken in a poultry farm.

Lashing out at the private educational institutions before media persons at the Congress Legislature Party Office, Mr Venkat Rao stated that most of the institutions were concerned about getting as many students possible while failing to provide even basic facilities for the students.

Demanding that a Committee be set up to streamline the functioning of private educational institutions in the state, the senior leader said that the government must be held responsible if the managements do not fall in line and provide basic amenities to the students.

“They (private educational institutes’ managements) are more concerned on gaining publicity over ranks that providing amenities to students,” the MLC stated.

He demanded that officials of the Education Department clamp down on errant private educational institutions’ managements so that they follow the rules and regulations laid down by the government.

Mr Venkat Rao pointed out that while school and college managements are collecting hefty fees from the parents, they fail to provide even the basic amenities to students.

“Most of these private educational institutions have been established only with an intention to mint money. Providing education is not their priority,” the MLC stated.

He demanded the officials concerned to act tough on such errant school and college managements and cancel their recognition certificates if they did not fall in line.

Mr Venkat Rao pointed out that Education Department officials sent notices to managements for their failure to provide basic amenities, only 10 percent of institutions fell in line and obeyed the orders.
The Congress leader also criticized the TDP for the absence of national level leaders’ photos in the ongoing Mahanadu.
