Shillong: The Meghalaya police on Monday arrested a senior Khasi Student’s Union (KSU) leader Ferdinald Kharkamni, who had absconded after assaulting cops at Umiam police station on October 15.
Kharkami, who is the chief of KSU Ri-Bhoi district (North Khasi Hills), had assaulted the officer-in-charge and a constable inside the police station.
Soon after the assault, Kharkami went underground forcing the police to issue a look out notice.
His arrest came 34 days after.
“After strenuous efforts, successfully established the whereabouts of Kharkamni and he was arrested from Nongpoh on Monday, Meghalaya Assistant Inspector General of Police, G.K. Iangrai said.
He said the accused is currently under police custody and investigation of the case is still on.
