Student forced to drink, shave of mush

Hyderabad, February 09: A B.Tech first year student of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) was allegedly ragged by his seniors and threatened with dire consequences for disobeying their diktats. He was forced to consume alcohol and remove his moustache.

The victim, K Nageshwar Rao, is lodged at Room No 301 in Krishna hostel on the University campus.

According to the Kukatpally police, Nageshwar Rao complained that some seniors in the nearby Manjira Hostel called him to their room and forced him to drink alcohol. When Nageshwar Rao refused to do so, they reportedly threatened him with dire consequences, inspector Lakshmi Narayana said.

Nageshwar Rao was also made to dance and sing.

They later ordered him to remove his moustache but Nageshwar Rao did not agree. Though Rao objected to their behaviour and threatened to take up the issue with the police, the seniors did not relent.

Unable to bear the harassment, Nageshwar Rao, with the help of his classmates, complained to the police. Cases were registered under Section 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Ragging Act against three seniors.
