Student beats Professor at JNTUH

In an incident of insolence an assistant professor was beaten up by a student at the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) on the campus here on Tuesday.

According the KPHB Police, the incident took place at 6 p.m., after the student had an argument with the professor and university’s security staff.

The victim, M Rajashekar who reportedly hails from Andhra Pradesh works as an assistant professor at National Academy of Construction (NAC), Hyderabad and a regular visitor to the university campus for his research.

According to police Rajashekar had an argument with the security staff over the security issue. Madhu, an M.Sc student of JNTU who was present at the spot, then took the side of security staff and along with few other student manhandled the professor. He then started beating the professor.

Rajashekar who later lodged a complaint, said the KPHB Police refused to register the FIR saying it was a non-cognizable offence. However KPHB police said “we have registered a case against the offenders.
