Stripping 4 million people of their citizenship illegal: Intellectuals

New Delhi: The final draft list of National Register for Citizen (NRC) has been released in Assam from which over 40 lakh people living in Assam have been excluded from the final draft list. This has created fears among the people.

Expressing concern over not including the names of such a large number of people in the list, National president All India United Democratic Front, president Assam Jamiat Ulama and MP Maulana Badruddin Ajmal declared it a part of the political conspiracy. He said, notwithstanding Supreme Court orders and guidelines, a large number of Muslims residing in Muslim dominated areas have been excluded from the list so that the number of Muslim voters could be decreased.

Raising voice against the draft list, NCP MP Majeed Maiman said this decision of the government is illegal, immoral and inhuman.

General Secretary Jamiat Ulama-Hind Maulana Mahmood Madani said the exclusion of over 40 lakh people from the final draft list of NRC is a serious and grave issue. This will have deep effects on social and geographical conditions of the country. He reiterated that Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind will continue its legal struggle in the Supreme Court.
