Stringent punishment on illegal phone tapping

New Delhi, June 29: Government is drafting a new law under which telecommunication companies’ license will be revoked besides inflicting harsh punishments upon them on unauthorized and illegal phone tapping. Under the law it is planned to set up DPAI to monitor and enforce compliance of all provisions and receive and investigate complaints about alleged violations of data protection rules.

It has been proposed to include government officials also under the act. The act also has a provision that if any department is found to be indulged in circulating the intercepted data in public the head of the department will be liable to strict punishment.
