Strike cripples IDBI banks

Chennai: Around 1,900 branches of IDBI Banks across the country were shut on Tuesday due to a strike by employees demanding wage revision, said a leader of the All India IDBI Officers Association (AIIDBIOA)

The employee unions – officers and staff – are on strike on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“The bank has 15,000 officers and around 2,000 staff members working in the 1,900 branches spread across the country. All the branches are closed due to strike,” protest leader Vithal Koteswara Rao A.V. told IANS.

Wage revision for employees and officers of IDBI Bank is due for the period from November 1, 2012 to October 31, 2017, on the lines of the settlement in all other banks.

In the case of all other Banks, not only wage revision was settled in May 2015 with effect from November 2012, the negotiation for the next wage revision due from November 1, 2017 was also underway.

According to Rao, the bank handles around 250,000 instruments valued around Rs 1,800 crore daily.

“Nearly 60 per cent of that have been affected due to the strike,” he added.
