Strict action against encroachers of Wakf land: CM

Karnataka Government will initiate prompt action against all those who had encroached upon valuable land owned by the State Wakf Board, irrespective of their standing, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda today said. Replying to questions in the Legislative Council, he said the government will act on the report submitted early this week by the Karnataka Minorities Commission but he would need some time to go through it. The report had said over several years, influential persons including politicians, religious heads and even MNCs had encroached thousands of acres of Wakf land in many parts of the state. The report alleged that a scam of more than Rs 2,00,000 crore involving Wakf Board property was encroached and asked Chief Minister to initiate action against the culprits.
