Stress to launch movement for promotion of Urdu

Ghulbarga has the unique distinction of making the existence of Urdu language and Literature through its writers and poets. It has left deep impressions on the international scene. Gulbarga has been a very important cultural and literary center. These thoughts were expressed by the intellectuals on the occasion of the release of the book “Gulbarga mein Shair vo Adab”. The function was organized by Zinda Dilan-e-Hyderabad and Anjuman-e-Taraqui-e-Urdu, Gulbarga. Noted Educationists and writer, Dr. Wahab Andaleeb, former Chairman of Urdu Academy, Karnataka presided over the function. This book contains 24 research papers presented in a two day seminar held on the occasion of “Jashn-e-Wahab Andaleeb”. This was compiled by Hamid Akmal and Dr. Anees Siddiqui.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Zahid Ali Khan, Editor of Siasat Urdu Daily told that Siasat has very strong connection with Gulbarga. One association of Siasat is due to Hazrath Khaja Banda Nawaz and the other association is that Mr. Mahboob Husain Jigar, former joint editor of Siasat was from Gulbarga. If the founder of Siasat Urdu Daily, Mr. Abid Ali Khan had not got the cooperation of Mr. Mahboob Husain Jigar, Siasat would not have been what it is today. Both relinquished their Govt. jobs to devote themselves for Siasat. He suggested that a book should be compiled highlighting the contribution of the writers of Hyderabad-Karnataka and Gulbarga. If need be he would write letters to two Muslim Ministers of Karnataka.

Mr. Zahid Ali Khan further told that there is a need to launch a massive movement for the promotion of Urdu. He mentioned that Siasat Urdu Daily has been conducting Urdu examinations twice a year. So far, 17 lakh persons have learnt Urdu. In the same manner, Idara-e-Adabiyath-e-Urdu has been conducting Urdu Fazil and other examinations. We should not get disappointed. We should work with determination for promotion of Urdu. He pointed out that 75 years after the Russian Revolution, attempts are being made in the independent Islamic states of former Russia to popularize Urdu, Persian and Arabic which are being successful.

Noted humour writer, Padma Shree Mujtaba Husain, in his short speech told that many literary personalities from Gulbarga have gained international fame. Lack of funds has never been a problem for the literary activities of Gulbarga. He pointed out that he had suggested to compile the articles of the seminar in the form of a book.

Dr. Wahab Andaleeb told that there has been a strong bondage between Hyderabad and Gulbarga in the fields of Literature and Culture. Although Gulbarga became part of Karnataka after the reorganization of States but it feels as if it is the part of Hyderabad even today. He told that he has the unique distinction of being student of Osmania University. He also worked for a year in Siasat Urdu Daily under the instructions from Mr. Mahboob Husain Jigar. After Mr. Abid Ali Khan and Mr. Mahboob Husain Jigar, Mr. Zahid Ali Khan, Mr. Zaheeruddin Ali Khan and Mr. Amer Ali Khan have taken the mission of Siasat to greater heights.

Prof. Ashraf Rafi, former Head of the Dept. of Urdu, OU told that Gulbarga has left very deep impressions of literary renaissance which cannot be overlooked by the literary history of Urdu. The history of Gulbarga encompasses 800 years whereas the history of Hyderabad cover a period of 400 years. Gulbarga has been the capital of Bahmani Dynasty and it has also been a province of former Hyderabad State during Asafia period. Mr. Abid Ali Khan was the first person who had given donation for the construction of Urdu Hall in Gulbarga.

Mr. Yousuf Imtiyaz (Canada) presented an essay highlighting his association with Gulbarga. Dr. Ali Siddiqui told that Gulbarga has left deep impression on the history of Urdu literature. Mr. Ghulam Ahmed Noorani, General Secretary of Zinda Dilan-e-Hyderabad.
