Hyderabad, February 18: The State Government is awaiting the Centre’s nod for introduction of YS Rajasekhara Reddy Madhyamika Shiksha Abhiyan mission in the State. The mission is a Centrally sponsored scheme meant for strengthening secondary education between 2009 and 2017.
In response to a question during the Question Hour proceedings in the State Assembly, Secondary Education Minister D Manikya Vara Prasada Rao stated that the State Government has already submitted proposals to the Centre and their sanction was awaited.
The mission would be implemented from 2009 to 2017 with an objective to make secondary education accessible and affordable to all young children, he added.
With regard to modalities, he said, funding would be 75:25 of Central and State share under the 11th Five year plan and 50:50 share under the 12th Five Year Plan.
Secondary education would be strengthened by improving enrollment ratio for classes IX and X and by providing quality education. Steps would be taken to make all secondary schools confirm to prescribed norms with adequate infrastructure facilities by 2017.
IRRIGATION: Minister for Major and Medium Irrigation Ponnala Lakshmaiah informed that an extent of 5.18 lakh acres of land was acquired for irrigation projects till December 31 last year. The remaining land would be acquired by March 2011 and compensation would be paid to the farmers as and when awards were passed, he added.
ROAD ACCIDENT FUND: Home Minister P Sabita Reddy said following directions from the Supreme Court, modalities were being worked out by the Central Government to create a road accident fund with a view to ensure that all road accident victims get compensation on time. Police reports were being sent to the District and Sessions Judge (MV Claims Tribunal) within 30 days as stipulated for payment of insurance money to the next of kin of the bereaved family members.
BUS FARE: Transport Minister S Vijayaramaraju admitted that the Government was aware of hardships of the common man who were dependent on public transport due to steep increase in bus fares. After examining all alternatives, fares have been revised as such that the burden on comman man was minimised.
