Lucknow, October 25: Amid sporadic violence that left five people injured, nearly 73 per cent voters today exercised their franchise in the fourth and final phase of the 3-tier Panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh.
Five people were injured in clashes, stone-pelting and incidents of firing in 11 districts during the polling, state ADGP (Law and Order) Brij Lal told reporters here.
Elsewhere in the state, the voting was peaceful, he said adding 15 people had been arrested in connection with the violence.
At some places, including Parwana village in Bulandshar district, police opened fired in the air and used batons to restore calm as polling was held in 186 blocks in 70 districts across the state in the last phase.
