Strasbourg shooting accused pledged allegiance to IS

Paris: Cherif Chekatt, who allegedly killed five people at a Christmas market attack in Strasbourg city on December 11, had “pledged allegiance” to Islamic State (IS), reports suggested.

“A video in which Cherif Chekatt pledged allegiance to ISIS was found on a USB key,” CNN quoted an anonymous judicial source as saying.

Meanwhile, IS claimed that the gunman was a “soldier” of ISIS. However, they did not release any evidence to prove their claims.

Chekatt was neutralised on December 14 during an operation launched by the French Police after he escaped the shooting spot. He was killed after police officers spotted him in the Neudorf area of south-east.

The motive behind the attack is yet to be officially announced.
