Strange escapades of ND Tiwari

Hyderabad, December 31: Disgraced Narayan Dutt Tiwari’s ‘‘sleazy night outs’’ in the city date back to the 80s, a good quarter of a century before he landed in the Raj Bhavan.

Following his ignominous exit as Governor, official circles have started discussing his escapades in general and a certain tape in particular –– different from the one aired by a vernacular channel a few days ago. It is a recording of a hot night that Tiwari had spent in Ameerpet and is now said to be in the ‘‘safe custody’’ of a retired IPS officer. The Intelligence wing is also believed to have a copy.

The two-and-half hour video was shot more than 25 years ago through the window of a house in Ameerpet where Tiwari reportedly spent one whole night with a woman. The shooting was directed by a senior IPS officer, who was in the Intelligence wing at the time. The late NT Rama Rao was the chief minister then.

Informed sources recall that Tiwari, on landing at the airport, drove in an official car to the place of his stay. Later, he left in a private vehicle to the house in Ameerpet.

Just, one of his close confidants was aware of his whereabouts that night.

Asked about the need to videograph Tiwari’s nocturnal excursion, one official explained that it was part of the Intelligence wing’s ‘‘routine work’’ then and even now.

‘‘The only difference is that we did not have the kind of gadgets which are available today. We were asked to collect material (referring to the cassette) and be ready,’’ he said, adding that even the conversation between Tiwari and the woman was recorded.

Meanwhile, the State Police still seems undecided on proceeding against Tiwari.

Asked if the Government will probe the latest expose in a TV channel, DGP RR Girish Kumar said they were looking into the legal aspects.

However, a senior police official said they could proceed with the investigation only if any victim lodged a complaint against Tiwari.

’’Under Article 361, no case can be registered against a serving Governor.

But now that Tiwari is out, we need a complaint from a victim, not from a third party (an advocate has approached the police against Tiwari),’’ he poined out.
