Stop Open Defecation by May: KTR

Hyderabad: Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao today said steps should be taken to stop “open defecation” in all municipalities across the State by May.
Speaking at a review meeting with GHMC, HMDA, CDMA, Metro Rail and others here on Thursday, KTR asked the officials to adopt modern practices to complete the works on time. Stating that the civic staff should focus on preventing open defecation by May, he said the government is firm to address the issue by encouraging individual toilets. Metro Rail works should be expedited besides two bed room housing scheme in the GHMC purview should be completed on a war-footing.
KTR also stated the State government will provide funds for white-topping of the roads for rapid growth. He asked the officials to create awareness against the open defecation and conduct clean and green drive in all the municipalities. As part of giving priority to provide facilities, steps needed to fit LED bulbs, repair roads and distribute autos to collect garbage in towns. He directed the officials to take stern action against those who involves in defacement of public places by wall-posters, pasting flexes and wall writings. Works related to Musi River front Development at Bapu Ghat, Kotwalguda, Eco Park be completed in a time frame, he said, adding that long-term plans should be drawn for the major projects. (NSS)
