Hyderabad, October 25: Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu today criticised the Andhra Pradesh government’s move to rename state-owned theatre Telugu Lalitha Kala Thoranam after former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. “The renaming of institutions and other organisation after Congress leaders would hurt the sentiments of the people of the state,” he said.
Naidu asked the government to reconsider the decision and withdraw it. Referring to “shoddy” affairs of Micro Finance Institutions (MFIs) in the state, the BJP leader alleged that the state government has failed in regulating operations of these financial bodies.
The party would raise this issue in the Winter Session of Parliament demanding establishment of regional rural banks in all panchayats, he said. Quoting a World Bank survey, Naidu said only 32 per cent of villagers were getting financial assistance from the banking sector and remaining 68 per cent were dependent on private finance institutions.
