Thiruvananthapuram, April 11: Indian Lawyers’ Congress today asked the Election Commission to prevent the ruling Left Democratic Front government from using as campaign material a newsletter of the state Information and Public Relations Department.
In a petition to the Commission, the ILC alleged that LDF workers had distributed a large number of copies of ‘Vikasana Samanwayam’, which had articles on the government’s achievements, to voters.
“The government is using copies of the state-run publication to attract votes in favour of LDF. Propagation at the cost of state expense should be checked and the Election Commission should conduct an inquiry on the issue,” P Rahim, General Secretary of the Congress said in a press release today.
More than three lakhs copies of the February edition were printed and being distributed across Kerala, it said.
