Bhubaneswar: Expressing concern over raids conducted by security agencies and police at Madaris in Odisha after the arrest of Abdul Rehman, a suspected terrorist having links with al-Qaeda, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind on Saturday urged the government to stop harassing Mslims and defaming religious institution in the name of terrorism.
“Taking to task an entire community for the misdeeds and wrongdoing of an individual will be counter productive”, Hakeemuddin Qasmi, working secretary of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind said while addressing a press conference on Saturday.
He said the community and Madrasa managements are ready to extend all kind of support to the government, security agencies and the police. But, the was Madaris are raided and Muslims are harassed is totally unacceptable.
“Muslims in Odisha are known for their efforts to maintain peace and harmony. It is sad that the community is subjected to such a traumatic situation after the arrest of an individual”, he said during the press conference which was attended by Madrasa representatives from all across Odisha.
He said efforts to contain terrorism is necessary but it should not turn into a war against a particular community or religious group.
“You can’t win if an entire community is alienated”, he said.
Hakeemuddin Qasmi also criticized a section of media for its misleading and false reporting.
“Muslims have complete faith in the judiciary. The media should not jump to shady conclusions when our judicial system is already there to take better judgments”, he said.
Hakeemuddin Qasmi also alleged that the concerned department in the state is forcing the Madrasa administration for registration.
“We are not against if a Madrasa voluntarily registered itself. But, forcing registration is against the constitution”, he said.
He also said that the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind is considering to make a survey of all Madaris on its own and to take necessary corrective measures.
