New Delhi: Meeting people living in the border area of Kupwara and Jammu, deciding to withdraw cases against first-time stone pelters by Union Home Minister Raj Nath Singh was not taken down well with BJP party’s leader.
Bharatiya Janata Party’s Rajya Sabha MP, Lt.General (Retd) Dr DP Vats’ statement where he said that he believed that people who pelt stones at Army personnel in Jammu and Kashmir “should be shot dead” instead of withdrawing cases against them has now become a controversy, Times Now reported.
As per the report published in ANI news agency, the BJP Rajya Sabha MP from Haryana’s Bhiwani reportedly said, “I read about the withdrawal of cases against stone-pelters but I think those pelting stones should be shot dead”.
He was referring to the recent PDP-BJP government’s decision of withdrawing 10,000 police complaints against stone-pelters.
Union Home Minister Singh had recently told that cases against “first-time” stone-pelters were withdrawn because “children make mistakes” and this should not spoil their future.
Singh said: “We believe that children anywhere are the same. We understand that some youth were misled into stone pelting…children can make mistakes… that is why we decided to withdraw the cases against those children who were involved in stone pelting.”
He also appealed the state’s youth to walk on the path of development and leave the path of destruction last week during his visit in Srinagar.
