Stone laid for medical college

Tirupati, November 09: Chief Minister K Rosaiah has said the credit of establishing three IIITs and 16 universities, including a horticultural varsity, in a record time goes to Andhra Pradesh in the country.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for Padmavati Medical College near Renigunta airport today, he said the State Government was giving top priority to education and health sectors. Following the success of 108 and 104 medical services in the State, the Central Government is planning to replicate them in all other States in the country to provide better medicare to poor people, he said, hoping that the college would set new standards in medical education.

Padmavati Medical College is a joint venture of Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) and Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham.

Earlier, the Chief Minister interacted with some of the beneficiaries of welfare schemes at Sri Venkateswara Employees Training Academy (SVETA).

He also went round the stalls set up by the District Rural Development Agency on Indira Kranti Patham. Speaking on the occasion, he reiterated the State Government’s commitment to the economic uplift of the poor. The Chief Minister also visited a photo exhibition organised by DWMA on the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.

Assembly Speaker N Kirankumar Reddy, District Incharge Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, Roads and Buildings Minister Galla Aruna Kumari, Forest Minister P Ramachandra Reddy, Kanchi Peethadhipathi Sri Jayendra Saraswati and others were present.

A team of officials from CMC Hospital, Vellore, urged the Chief Minister to lay the foundation stone for their hospital near Chittoor. The district administration had already allotted 500 acres of land for the CMC hospital.
