STF raids mobile SIM card shops in 7 cities; three held

Lucknow, September 21: The Special Task Force sleuths have conducted raids at various mobile phone shops in seven cities of Uttar Pradesh, including the state capital, and arrested three persons for issuing sim cards on fake documents.

During the raid conducted in 48 shops across the cities, the officers seized 287 application forms with fake names and addresses. It also found that a total of 127 SIM cards were sold to customers without application forms being filled, ADG law and order, Brij Lal, told reporters here.

He said a raid in the house of one of the accused yielded letter heads and stamps of “imaginary gram pradhans”.

“Concerned authorities are being approached for cancellation of the pre-activated sim cards,” the ADG said.
