Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari, who is also in-charge of Education, has asserted that the TRS Government would take all required measures to bring back the past academic excellence in the government schools in the State.
Replying to a spate of questions regarding the prevailing conditions in government schools during question hour in the Assembly, the Deputy Chief Minister said the State government has formulated a three-pronged strategy for improving conditions and standards in government schools — to ensure 100 percent admissions, provide uniforms to students and build required toilets in the schools. He reiterated that these three main tasks would be fulfilled by June 12 this year. If there are any schools where these three tasks are not fulfilled, steps would be taken to achieve the same immediately once it comes to the notice of the government, he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister further said the State government would also ensure that all the government schools in the State would have required toilets before the next academic year starts. He also said steps would be taken to ensure that two persons would be appointed in each school for cleaning and maintenance of the toilets. Srihari pointed out that in all there were 25,926 government schools comprising of primary, upper primary and high schools. Though at least one toilet is there in each school, lack of required water and non-maintenance has led to the closure of the toilets in many schools, he explained.
Earlier, raising the issue of the pathetic conditions prevailing in government schools, Manchireddy Kishan stressed the importance of keeping the toilets clean and in hygienic condition. He wanted that the government take construction of toilets as per the strength of the students in the schools. Paltry remunerations being paid to the workers was one of the causes for non-maintenance of toilets, he observed. Congress member Sampath Kumar wanted that adequate funds be released to the Panchayat Raj and Gram Panchayats for maintenance of the toilets in schools. (NSS).
