Steps on to boost fisheries, aquaculture: Talasani

The State government has shifted its focus on fisheries and aquaculture departments for good demand in market, according to Animal Husbandry & Fisheries Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav.

Addressing a workshop on Fisheries development at Haritha Plaza here today, the minister announced all support for the benefit of those relying on the fisheries and aqua culture activities in the State. The State government, he said, has launched a new scheme of fisheries development which was not seen anywhere else in the country. The fisheries wing has released fish seed in lakhs of quantities into lakes, water bodies, ponds and tanks to boost fish cultivation.

He said that they set a target to drop about 70 lakh to 80 lakh fish seed into these water bodies. The fisheries scheme has proved handy as it helped the fishermen community of about 35 lakhs in the state. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has nurtured the idea of fisheries development to rural economy by providing employment to the fishermen in a big way he claimed.

In addition to reviving lakes, water bodies and ponds through the flagship Mission Kakatiya, the facilities will be provided like marketing, stalls, technology and better msp he said. The fisheries development to help flourish the fishermen is possible as the government is completing the irrigation projects and giving 24 hour power supply, he said. (NSS)
