Step-motherly treatment towards Urdu

Hyderabad, October 1: Government officials, it seems, are going by the saying ‘if you want to wipe out the identity of a community then at first wipe out its language’.

The living testimony of this is a board installed at the foot of Charminar in which it is inscribed “Protected monument archaeological survey of India.” The board has the details regarding the importance of Charminar, various legal acts regarding the preservation of the monument and against construction on surrounding area etc. It is a good effort no doubt, but the sad part of it is that Urdu is omitted from the board. Urdu the language of the city, the language of Quli Qutub Shah himself is ignored. Though there is so much useful information written on the board but it is not in Urdu.

Sadly no one from the Urdu knowing populace raised the issue. If we do not raise the voice against the step motherly treatment meted out towards Urdu then the language will die its own death. The board installed at the foot of Charminar is the worst example of hostility towards Urdu in our state.
