Station information on new MMTS trains

Hyderabad, April 30: To provide accurate information about MMTS train arrivals, South Central Railway will start using a GPS-based passenger information system on the new MMTS rakes from April 30.

The new system will display to onboard passengers information regarding the next approaching station and arrival time at the station through LED display and through audio announcement.

Each coach has been provided with two display units and they show messages like name of the next approaching station, name of next station and general information.

Six to eight speakers have also been provided in each coach where announcements on approaching stations would be made in Telugu, Hindi and English for benefit of passengers.

SK Agarwal, chief electrical engineer, SCR said the facility will be run as a pilot service from Lingampally to Falaknuma on six new rakes.

Depending on passenger’ response, he said they would add the facility to existing MMTS trains. Agarwal added, “The system is fully automatic. Each rake has an antenna which receives signal from the satellite and a control room is fixed inside the driver chamber to control the service.”

He said another new service which will be provided in the new rakes are LED destination boards on both sides of the coach to display both the originating and destination stations for easy identification by passengers.

The new rakes also have other comforts like polycarbonate full length seats to give more comfort to passengers.
