State’s population reaches 8.46 crore, 5th most populated state

Hyderabad, April 1: Director of Census Operations, Andhra Pradesh has announced the provisional population totals for Andhra Pradesh on the basis of census 2011 according to which the total population of Andhra Pradesh is 8,46,65,533 comprising 4,25,09,881 males and 4,21,55,652 females, showing an increase of 84,55,526 persons over the 2001 census with a decadal growth rate of 11.10 percent.

Ms Y V Anuradha presented provisional data along with the executive director Mr. D Hanumanth. She told that decadal growth has come down by 3.49 percent during the decade 2001-11 as against 14.59 recorded in the 2001 census coming to 11.10 percent.

As per population Andhra Pradesh stands fifth in the country after Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, and West Bengal.

Rangareddy has become the highest populated state leaving behind East Godavari with a population of 52, 96,396, followed by East Godavari with a population of 51,51,549, and Guntur.

The smallest district as per population is Vizianagaram whose population is just 23,42,869 followed by Srikakulam (26,99,471) and Nizamabad (25,52,073).

Rangareddy district has recorded highest decadal growth rate 48.15, followed by Mahaboobnagar district with 15.03 and Kurnool with 14.65. The lowest decadal growth rate recorded in West Godavari district with 3.45 preceded by Vizianagaram district with 4.6 and Hyderabad with 4.71.

The total population of Hyderabad (Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Contonement and Osmania University) is 40,10,238 comprising of 20,64,359 males and 19,45,879 females.

When it comes to sex ratio, the state has recorded the male to female sex ratio as 1000:992, showing an increase of 14 points during the decade 2001-2011.

Nizamabad district has recorded the highest sex ratio with 1,038 females per 1000 males. The lowest sex ratio was recorded in Hyderabad district with 943 females per 1000 males.

The density of the State has been estimated to be 308. The State Capital with a density of 18,480 per square kilometer leads all others in respect of density. Adilabad with a lowest 170 people per square kilometer registered the lowest density among all others.

The state has recorded a total literacy of 67.77 percent as against the 60.47 percent recorded in the 2001 census. It shows an increase of 7.19 percent. Male literacy rate is 75.56 as against 70.32 recorded in 2001. The female literacy rate is 59.74 percent as against 50.43 percent recorded in the 2001 census.

Among the districts, the highest literacy rate is recorded in Hyderabad with 80.96 percent, followed by Rangareddy with 78.05 and Krishna with 74.37 percent. The lowest literacy rate is recorded in Mahaboobnanagar with 56.06 percent, preceded by Vizianagaram district with 59.49 and Kurnool with 61.13, she said.

Ms. Anuradha said it was only provisional totals and the final list would be announced after revision.
