National Commission for Minorities chairman Wajahat Habeebullah on Saturday expressed serious concerns over the non-implementation of Prime Minister’s 15-Point Programme meant for the welfare of minorities across the country.
Addressing the India Education Conclave 2012 organised by MESCO and American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin (AFMI) here, Habeebullah said that several States, especially in north India, have not utilised crores of rupees sanctioned by the Centre under the PM’s 15-point programme. He said that the State Governments should implement the National Skills Development Programme in all the districts where minorities constitute 15 per cent of the total population. However, he said that the State Governments were not keen in implementing the programme.
The NCM Chairman asked the voluntary organisations to create awareness among the people to take benefits from the PM’s 15-point programme and other schemes.
Speaking on the occasion Hyderabad MP and MIM President Asaduddin Owaisi said that the UPA Government should take immediate steps for the educational and socio-economic development of the Muslims across the country. He warned that the Congress party would face the ire of Muslims voters if it fails to implement the recommendations made by the Justice Sachar Committee and Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission.
Addressing the morning session, former minister Mohammad Ali Shabbir made a detailed presentation on the impact of four per cent Muslim reservation in Andhra Pradesh. He said that the Congress Government took practical steps for the growth of minorities, especially the Muslims in the State. He said the reservation and Fee Reimbursement schemes have helped thousands of poor Muslim students in pursuing higher education. He asked other States in the country to emulate the AP Model in giving reservation to Muslim community.
