Statehood for Vidarbha will never be granted: Rane

Mumbai, April 19: Launching a scathing attack on proponents of separate statehood for Vidarbha, Maharashtra Revenue Minister Narayan Rane today said their “dreams” will never be fulfilled.

Replying to a debate on farmers suicide and agrarian crisis in Vidarbha in the Legislative Assembly, Rane lambasted the BJP for stating that separate statehood for Vidarbha was the only solution to the region’s ills.

“I am aghast as to how such thoughts can come to the minds of MLAs who have been elected to the Maharashtra Legislative assembly at a time when the state is gearing up to celebrate its golden jubilee on May 1. You have the freedom to speak your mind outside the House. But, this is the august house of a united Maharashtra,” Rane said.

He said the supporters of Vidarbha statehood need not “dream” about what can be achieved if the demand is granted.
