State will file reply on Cauvery issue in SC: CM

Karnataka will file a necessary reply in the wake of a petition filed by Tamil Nadu over holding the meeting of Cauvery River Authority (CRA) and release of more water, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar today said. Refusing to elaborate on the reply to be filed by the government, he said the state government would take a proper decision as per the law. Speaking to newsmen at helipad, however, he refused to give details on the issue as how the state could reply to the Supreme Court by Monday.

Chief Minister was here to inaugurate the two-day Male Mahadeshwara Jayanthi celebrations.

Karnataka has resisted before the Supreme Court on release of water to Tamil Nadu due to deficient rains during the current monsoon. While the Tamil Nadu government has been insisting the Union Government and the Supreme Court to give direction o release to Cauvery water. The Prime Minister, meanwhile, has called the meeting of Cauvery River Authority, which he heads, on September 19.
