State to tighten rules for school transport

The State Government on Wednesday assured the House that rules would be tightened with regard to the buildings and transport system in the schools across the State.

Replying to the concerns raised by MLAs across party lines over the safety of children travelling in school buses, School Education Minister K Parathasarathy said that the Transport Department has been asked to inspect the school buses and other means of transport being used by schools across the State. He said the management of LV Reddy Memorial School of Khammam has been served notice for de-recognition following the bus accident that claimed the lives of eight students on Tuesday. Further, he said a detailed enquiry was being conducted into the incident.

Earlier, CPM floor J Ranga Reddy gave an adjournment motion seeking discussion on the tragic school bus accident of Khammam. However, while disallowing the motion Speaker Nadendla Manohar asked the government to give a statement on the issue.

Legislative Affairs Minsiter D Sridhar Babu said that the government has already announced ex-gratia for the families of the deceased and would take care of all medical expenses of students injured in the accident. On behalf of the House, he condoled the death of eight students in the accident.

TDP deputy floor leader Gali Muddu Krishnanma Naidu said that the State Government should take steps to ensure safety fo transport system in schools. Further, he pointed out that several schools were functioning in buildings which were in dilapidated condition.(INN)
