Hyderabad, April 22: The State government has released a sum of Rs. 133 crore to upgrade the Tirupati airport into an international airport.
Reminding officials of the Infrastructure & Investment Department of the release of this amount while reviewing the progress of infrastructure works here on Wednesday along with Chief Secretary S. V. Prasad, Chief Minister K. Rosaiah wanted them to speed up works relating to upgradation works of Tirupati airport.
The official were also instructed to expedite works relating to development of Kakinada, Krishnapatnam, Gangavaram, Vadarevu, Nizampatnam, Machilipatnam and other ports.
Officials told him that the State ranked second in the country in cargo-handling, next only to Gujarat. In the past five years, the cargo handling had gone up from 18 million tonnes to 43.3 million tonnes per annum.
