Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy on Wednesday said that the State police was fully geared up to meet any challenges on maintaining law and order situation.
Talking to media persons after emerging out of review meeting with Superintendents of Police and DSPs over the polling arrangements in Narasannapeta Assembly constituency in Srikakulam district and Payakaraopeta Assembly constituency in Visakhapatnam district, the DGP stated that fool-proof arrangements were being made to ensure incident-free polling in the election-bound districts on June 12. He said that serious action would be initiated against those, who disturb law and order during the by-elections. “No one will be spared if they take law into their hands and resort to violence,” he said.
Stating that 107 people have been taken into preventive custody in the poll-bound districts, the DGP informed that so far, about Rs 2 crore cash has been seized in Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam districts. He appealed to the business community and traders to carry the large sums of money with proper documents. He said that borders in election-bound districts would be closed as a precautionary measure on June 12.
Responding to rumours that YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy would be arrested during his appearance before the CBI Court on May 28, Dinesh Reddy said that such rumours would soon be put to an end. He appealed to the people not to believe such rumours.
Dinesh Reddy left the Jagan’s comments to his conscience that a plot has been hatched by the Congress, TDP, State government and CBI to arrest him in the next 3-4 days, create law and order problem and postpone the by-elections. He also condemned the targeting of police by a section of politicians in order to get mileage in the by-elections.
