State plans oxygen plants for Chitoor hospitals

Chittoor District Collector Salman Raju on Thursday announced that the State Government would soon establish an oxygen plant to meet the requirements of SVR Ruia Government General Hospital, Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences and Government Maternity Hospital.

Talking to media persons after inspecting the Ruia Government Hospital, the Collector said that all the hospital staff has been directed to cancel their leaves and attend duties in the wake of children deaths reported in the hospital. He said that the government would appoint 20 Lab Technicians and other staff to meet the rush of patients. Apart from this staff, he said that the government would deploy security staff on outsourcing basis for the hospital.

Mines and Geology Minister Galla Aruna Kumari admitted the shortage of staff in the hospital and said that the government was taking necessary measures to address the issue. Hospital officials said the children were being brought to the hospital at “very late stages” and despite their best efforts, the infants have died.

Meanwhile, the death toll of children rose to 15 with three more wards killed due to shortage of oxygen. The minister said that she would meet Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy over the problems in the government hospitals in Tirupati on August 21. (INN)
