State to invest 14,000 crore for improving power supply

Hyderabad, March 28: The State government has plans to invest over Rs. 14,000 crore for strengthening the power transmission and distribution (T&D) network during the next four years to match 18,503-MW programmed additional power generation by 2017.

New sub-stations

The AP Transmission Corporation and the Distribution Companies have chalked out an action plan to construct a total of 338 new sub-stations with different capacities — 400-KV (6), 220-KV (37), 132-KV (127) and Extra High Tension sub-stations (170) with a total length of 7,000 circuit kilometres (CKM) transmission lines. Further, 1,300 more 33/11-KV sub-station and over one lakh distribution transformers would also be erected in the next four years.

By implementing these measures the government was planning to bring down the T&D losses to 16 per cent.

Meanwhile, in recognition of the sustained efforts of the government in strengthening the T&D network, the Union Ministry of Power has invited Principal Secretary of Energy Sutirtha Bhattacharya for a high-level conference at New Delhi on Monday to review the achievements of commissioning transmission lines and sub-stations. Representatives of Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and various head of Energy Departments, CEOs of transmission companies of different State were likely to attend the meet.

Chairman and Managing Director of AP Transco Ajay Jain stated that transmission system availability in the State was 99.89 pc at present, which he claimed was the highest in the country . Another achievement was reducing T&D losses to 18.34 pc in 2009-10 from 38 pc in 1998-99.
