YSR Congress Party leader Amer Ali Khan has criticised the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation for not making adequate arrangements to clear the garbage that got accumulated due to the strike by the GHMC employees.
Amer Ali Khan alleged that the unbearable foul smell has started emanating from heaps of garbage in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. He said that the three-day strike by over 25,000 municipal workers have turned the city into a garbage dumping yard. He said over 12,000 Metric Tonnes of garbage is lying scattered on various roads, lanes and by-lanes of the twin cities. This will continue to grow at the rate of 4,000 MTs per day if not cleared immediately.
The YSRCP leader has blamed the GHMC and State Government for the ongoing strike by the municipal workers. Supporting the demands of workers who are on strike, he said that the State Government should fulfill the demands on immediate basis. The outsourcing workers/labours of the GHMC are demanding an increase in wages from Rs 6,700 to Rs 16,700, issuing of Health Cards too all the permanent employees of GHMC and purchase of new vehicles in place of old vehicles. They are also demanding clearance of cases pending in the court with regard to promotion of UDC, LDC and Bill Collectors.
Amer Ali Khan said that the GHMC and State Government were trying to suppress the strike and ignore the demands raised by the GHMC employees. He alleged that the corporation was trying to blame the striking employees for the deteriorating sanitation conditions in the city.
Amer Ali Khan said that the State Government should have acted promptly when the GHMC employees served the strike notice. Further, the government should have made alternate arrangements to lift the garbage from the city if it was not in a condition to fulfill the demands. However, he said instead of holding negotiations in a proper manner, the State Government and GHMC took no action and forced the GHMC staff to go on strike.
He said that the continuation of strike would turn the situation from bad to worse. The accumulation of tonnes of garbage in the city would lead to serious health hazards for the citizens. Therefore, he demanded that the State Government act swiftly and end the GHMC staff’s strike by accepting all their demands.
Amer Ali Khan threatened to launch an agitation, along with the GHMC employees, if the State Government fails to fulfill all their demands on immediate basis. (INN)
