Jaipur: Rajasthan Congress president Sachin Pilot today held the state government responsible for the death of former MLA Gurusharan Chhabra, who was on fast unto death demanding complete prohibition and strengthening of Lokpal.
Pilot demanded an inquiry into the matter.
“It is very unfortunate that the government did not do anything to get his ‘anshan’ (fast) broken. No representative of government met him during ‘anshan’. His life could have been saved if the government had taken initiative,” Pilot told reporters after visiting Chhabra’s family.
The former Union minister said that the government should fulfil the demands of Chhabra — complete ban on liquor and strengthening of Lokayukta — as a true homage to the departed leader.
Pilot said if Congress came to power in next Assembly elections, the government would fulfil the demands.
Former Janata Dal MLA Chabbra died at a Jaipur hospital on November 3 at the age of 65.
The state Congress president also reiterated his demand of a Supreme Court-monitored CBI inquiry into the mining scam.
