Hyderabad, October 16: The State Government has decided to request the Centre to sanction a special grant of Rs 500 crore from the Central Road Fund for restoration of roads that got damaged in the recent floods.
This amount will be in addition to Rs 923 crore provided by the Centre.
Speaking to reporters here today after her two-day tour of flood-affected districts, Roads and Buildings Minister G Aruna Kumari said her ministry would need about Rs 1,384 crore for taking up temporary (Rs 194 crore) and permanent (Rs 1,191 crore) restoration works. She said the State Government promised to provide Rs 150 crore from the Calamity Relief Fund in two phases and released Rs 75 crore.
So far, 227 of 742 damaged culverts have been repaired, and 323 of the 1,563 scoured roads restored temporarily.
Rains damaged roads in 13 districts including the floodaffected Kurnool, Mahaboobnagar, Krishna, Guntur and Nalgonda. The government has appointed seven special officers for supervising the road works in the flood-affected districts.
