Hyderabad, January 18: A new Advocate General from the Telangana region has been named by the Kiran Kumar Reddy government.
A Sudarshan Reddy from Telangana, who is a senior practicing advocate of AP High Court, has been appointed as Advocate General of the state, according to a GO issued on Monday.
His appointment comes with effect from the date he assumes charge of the office.
So far, no Telangana advocate has been appointed to this post.
The Srikrishna Panel Report has specifically mentioned that no advocate has so far been appointed as AG from the Telangana region. Therefore the current posting of Mr Reddy comes as a new development in the wake of allegations that there was a step-motherly treatment meted out to Telanganaites.
Mr Reddy seems to have had good ties with the Chief Minister. It is also said that Mr Sudharshan Reddy was Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy’s classmate in college. Further
Mr Sudharshan Reddy is believed to be instrumental in calling the stir by Telangana advocates for quota to them in Legal Counsels in the High Court.
The name of a Supreme Court lawyer, P Niroopreddy was also made the rounds for the post but he could not make it as he had links with those who took part in the Telangana struggle, according to the grapevine. Besides this, Mr Niroopreddy is said to have contested the Medak Parliamentary seat on a BJP ticket.
