Hyderabad, June 07:To ease problems faced by people in getting their passports on time, the government plans to open six more passport offices in the state.
The decision to this effect was taken at a review meeting held at the state Secretariat on Monday.
Speaking to media persons after the review meeting, Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy disclosed that two passport offices will soon be added to the one already existing in Hyderabad and others will be opened in Nizamabad, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Vijayawada.
She further informed that these new passports offices will be opened within four months.
It needs to be mentioned that the single passport office existing in the state is located at Secunderabad.
With rising complaints and a huge backlog of applications, the need for setting up more passport offices has been acute.
Matters have come to such an extent that arguments, brawls and lathi charge by police to control surging queues are often witnessed at the passport office.
In one such incident reported recently, angry applicants went on rampage when passport officials refused to accept their applications citing technical problems.
