State to get additional 800 MW power from NTPC

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy directed the Chief Secretary Minnie Mathew and energy department senior officials to ensure that arrangements were put in place for supply of additional power from National Thermal Power Corporation.

In a media release, the Chief Minister’s Office has informed that 797 MW of power will be added by July end which will provide relief to the situation in the State. It is expected that the NTPC-Simhadri 3 and 4 units – 420 MW, Ramagundam – 60 MW, Talcher – 107 MW and RTPP – 210 MW of additional power will be generated in the next few days.

The Chief Minister on Friday had a dicussion with NTPC Director (Commercial) I J Kapoor and requested that the additional power should be given to the State without fail. Kapoor promised that the NTPC units would gear up in the next few days and ensure supply of around 800 MW. He also informed that additional 100 MW from Jhajjar can be allotted to AP.

Kiran Kumar Reddy also reviewed the power sector issues at a high level meeting at the State Secretariat. Minister for Housing Uttam Kumar Reddy, Chief Secretary Minnie Mathew, Principal Secretary (Energy) Dinesh Kumar, Secretary (Finance) Pushpa Subramaniam, AP Genco MD K Vijayanand and other senior officials attended the meeting. He directed the officials to speed up the work of RNLG floating terminal at Kakinada which is expected to commence by December 2013 for importing of RLNG. He also asked the Finance Department to sanction the government dues to DISCOMS by Panchayat Raj, Municipal Administration, Irrigation, Lift Irrigation Schemes, etc.,

The Chief Minister directed the officials to speed up the synchronization of private plants given immediately to add additional capacity and to encourage non-conventional energy projects like solar and wind power generation units.

The Officials informed the Chief Minister that due to adverse monsoon conditions, and lack of water in Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar, Hydel generation has been badly affected. With the onset of monsoon, it is expected that the situation will improve in August.

They highlighted that gas from Reliance KG D-6 filed has been reduced substantially resulting in shortfall of 1600 mw which is responsible for the present crisis situation. Against 7 MMSCMD (Million Matric Standard Cubic Metre Per Day)of gas, only 2.95 MMSCMD is being supplied. The Chief Minister directed that the officials should pursue with NTPC to see that additional power reaches the State at the earliest. Further alternatives should also be worked out like solar and wind energy to fill up the gaps in production. The RLNG projects should also be speeded up.
