Hyderabad, February 18: In yet another major theft at a five-star hotel in the city, a NRI couple from Canada on Wednesday lost Rs 9 lakh worth of diamondstudded ear rings. The incident took place when they went out of their room for a few hours to attend the marriage of a relative. Police suspect the role of an `insider’ and are reportedly questioning a room boy.
The couple, Karthik Rajan and Sharan Rajan, flew down in the morning and checked into Room No 409 at Taj Krishna in Banjara Hills.
Karthik Rajan works as a manager in IBM, Canada.
“In the afternoon, the couple went to attend the wedding performed in the same hotel after giving the keys to a house-keeping boy. They returned to their room in the evening and found the diamond-studded ear rings missing from a handbag,’’ Punjagutta police inspector M Malla Reddy said.
Police are checking the footage of the closed-circuit television cameras installed in the hotel, for possible clues to trace out the thief.
Malla Reddy suspected involvement of a hotel employee and had taken up investigation in that direction.
Less than a week ago, unidentified persons stole Rs 4 lakh cash and a Rs 5 lakh worth jewellery from a businesswoman, Nirmala, who came to exhibit her sarees in an exhibition, Yatra, held in the same hotel.
