The State Government on Friday agreed to order a probe through Standing Committee into the irregularities in the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in the State.
Reacting to the allegations that the government was shielding the corrupt officials involved in the scam, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said that the government was trying to implement the scheme in a transparent manner. He said efforts were made to ensure that the funds were not misappropriated. However, the government was able to detect the misappropriation through social audit and immediate action was taken against the guilty.
However, Opposition Leader N Chandrababu Naidu said that although 44,700 cases were detected, but the FIR was issued in only 162 cases. He says the statistics themselves prove the non-seriousness of the State Government. He further alleged that as against the 42 lakh jobs cards, the government provided 100-days of work to only four lakh people.
Countering Naidu’s claim, the Chief Minister said that 100 days of works under the NREGS scheme was given to nearly seven lakh people. He said the government aims to provide 200 days of work to the registered members this year. He further announced that a Standing Committee would be constituted to probe into the irregularities into the embezzlement of NREGS funds.
