Stampede in UP temple leaves 50 dead, over 30 injured

Pratapgarh, March 04: Atleast 50 pilgrims were killed and more than 30 injured in a stampede during a ‘Bhandara’ organized by well-known Saint Kripalu Maharaj in Pratapgarh in UP on Thursday.

The incident occurred at the Ram Janki temple in the city when Pratapgarh in UP when the gate of the temple fell down on pilrgilms rushing in to partake in the ‘Bhandara’.

Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Brij Lal said about 48-50 people had been killed in the tragedy in Mangarh area of Kunda town, about 180 km from here. The death toll and the number of injured are likely to go up.

Meanwhile the first rescue team is at the site; most of the injured were immediately transferred to the nearby hospital. More rescue team will reach the site soon.

The well-known Saint Kripalu Maharaj have lots of followers both from India and abroad.
